If you require translations for certain types of documents such as newsletters, brochures, books, business cards or greeting cards (among many others) that have been carefully created using Desktop Publishing (DTP) the aim is to preserve the look and feel of the original document; retaining the layout, font and formatting as is. You will certainly wish to avoid the cost of redoing DTP in each target language or the risk of introducing potentially costly errors that could prove quite labour intensive to fix.
Our DTP team prepare original source documents for translation by removing or modifying some formatting or features that make the text flow or story layouts difficult to manage in translation. Following Translation and text substitution Headings, fonts, overflows are reviewed and fixed up if necessary to ensure the documents are complete and story segments are not broken and are displayed correctly.
A Team of Experts
A Desktop Publishing Service for localised content requires a specific skill set. Our DTP team combine their work with final LSO (Linguistic sign off) to guarantee a publishable end product. Our expert desktop publishers are aware that:
- Depending on the source and target language, translations can often swell or shrink anywhere between 10% and 25%.
- Texts in languages such as Hebrew and Arabic are written from right-to-left; requiring the complete modification of page layouts.
- The formatting of numerals can be different depending on the target and source language such date formatting where Arabic and Chinese files use the yyyy/mm/dd format, the U.S. use mm/dd/yyyy, meanwhile in Europe we use the dd/mm/yyyy format. Not only this, but currency amounts are often written in a variety of ways both within and outside of Europe.
- Punctuation can vary from country to country.
- Alphabets such as Cyrillic, Arabic, Hebrew and Chinese all require different fonts to English.
Our team are aware of these and the many common hurdles faced when translating DTP projects, and have proven to be more than capable of meeting these unique demands for each individual project.
At Translation.ie we’re all about making your project work for you; we are consistently developing new methods to enhance our client experience.
