What is the difference between a translator and an interpreter?
It’s understandable to get ‘translator’ and ‘interpreter’ mixed up. The terms ‘Translator’ and ‘Interpreter’ actually mark two different professions, although that was not always the case and some languages acceptably use one word for both roles. Translators render written works from a ‘source language’ (the language the document is written in) into the ‘target language’ (another language). On the other hand, interpreters provide oral translation, interpreting the meaning as well as the words spoken between speakers who speak different languages, usually in person or on the telephone.
Do we offer Certified Translation?
Yes we do! Translation.ie provides a comprehensive service for translation and certification of various documents such as Birth Certificates, all manner of legal documents, Marriage/Divorce Papers, Degrees/Diplomas, Transcripts of Academic Results, Insurance Certificates, Adoption Papers, Medical Reports, References, Personal Correspondence, etc. In fact the default position is that we will produce translations that are Certified whether we stamp the translated document or not, this is because we are a certified translation service provider where we follow rules and procedure that ensure the certification process is followed. The rules and agreed standards are set out in ISO/EN 17100:2015, we are also insured to conduct these activities and we are a recognised Translation service provider by all Irish government agencies and EU wide government offices.

How is the price of a translation calculated?
There are a lot of factors that determine the final cost of the job, but for clarity we will try to give you a quotation based on the number of words in the document or set of documents.
The price of each translation project varies due to factors such as the type of document, the length of text to be translated, how many translations (and languages) are required and the FROM <> TO languages that your project must be translated. What format the document is in, whether we have to work with some specific systems to get the text for translation from your document, whether we have to spend a lot of time converting your document to be translated or how much formatting needs to be done afterwards. Whether we need to work with you on a technical solution such as a website project or database project or whether there is a lot of DTP required.
Larger documents will get discounts based on the volume of words and if there are a lot of words repeated in the text that don’t need to be translated.
If cost is prohibitive and if full human produced certified translation is not a requirement, of course there is always the option to consider alternative “low cost” or “fast translation” methods if appropriate. There are many alternative options, especially using modern technology that can include review processes, post editing processes, format-less processes, machine assisted or AI assisted processes that may be suitable for you, please see our business solutions section we can tailor a package for you.
Since each project is unique, the easiest way to calculate the cost of your translation project is to begin by requesting a free quote and we will go over your project, prepare a no obligation quote and get back to you personally.
If you have a lot of work or repetitive work, you may want us to project manage your translation workflow under our quality management system, or manage all your multilingual content at the lowest possible cost. If this is the case we will evaluate your requirements and quote you only for the management steps you require.
If your job is very large; a few thousand pages or more or you have a lot of content you can’t easily share, please feel free to write to mail@translation.ie or solutions@translation.ie with a description of your needs and see how we can help you.
